The two sides

Bank side
Statement ending balance, plus deposits in transit, minus outstanding checks, plus or minus bank errors, equals the adjusted bank balance.
Book side
Ledger cash balance, plus interest and credits not yet recorded, minus fees, returned items and payments not yet recorded, plus or minus book errors, equals the adjusted book balance.
Done when
Both adjusted balances are equal and every reconciling item is listed and explained.
